What's Really Going On 12x18 Stretched Canvas Abstract Art Print by Joe Wallace

What's Really Going On is an abstract work originally created on watercolor paper with gesso, India ink, painter's tape, coffee, ink, and acrylic paint. This series is inspired by kanji, katakana, and other non-western alphabets and visual influences.

I made this work while listening to a lot of Drum & Bass compilations, some of the intensity of that music is reflected in the underpainting where I did a lot of attacking the page with quick strokes. 

My influences have a lot to do with accidental glimpses out of train and car windows riding in South Korea and Japan--all that lovely non-western writing whizzing by you on a train or in a car is a major factor in how these works are created.
