Exported Avidance is an abstract work originally created on watercolor paper with gesso, India ink, painter's tape, coffee, ink, and acrylic paint. This series is inspired by kanji, katakana, and other non-western alphabets and visual influences.
I made this work while listening to a lot of Drum & Bass compilations, some of the intensity of that music is reflected in the underpainting where I did a lot of attacking the page with quick strokes.
This series is visually inspired by the years I lived in northern Japan. My influences have a lot to do with accidental glimpses of things seen out of train and car windows riding in Japan--all that lovely non-western writing whizzing by you on a train or in a car is a major factor in how these works are created.
This work is shipped flat as it is an art print on canvas placed on stretcher bars for easy hanging.
