Italian Horror Movie Soundtrack Vinyl

Ever since we announced that Joe's Exploding Zoo would be branching out into vinyl records, we've been listing things for sale on the Joe's Exploding Zoo official page on Discogs.com.

And what a collection we've got there--fans of Italian horror soundtracks will love our lineup, which currently (at press time) includes:

Pino Donaggio - Trauma (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (CD, Album)

Fans of Argento's Trauma and the Argento soundtrack canon in general seem to be completists, which is why you find this COMPACT DISC version of the soundtrack available from Joe's Exploding Zoo.

This is one of Argento's middle period films (if the middle is how some fans view it--after Tenebrae but before Non Ho Sonno) so if you are looking for that more experimental Argento soundtrack approach you'll need to check out Cat O'Nine Tails or Four Flies on Grey Velvet instead.

Franco Micalizzi - The Visitor (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (2xLP, Ltd)

The Visitor is a jaw-dropping piece of weirdfilm from the heyday of the WTF 1970s and the soundtrack to this monstrosity is a holy grail of sorts for some cinematic obsessives.

We don't blame them one little bit. The Visitor is described by Drafthouse Films as a motion picture experience punctuated by "Multi-dimensional warfare, pre-adolescent profanity, and brutal avian attacks combine to transport viewers to a state unlike anything they've experienced--somewhere between Hell and the darkest reaches of outer space."

Goblin - Suspiria (LP, Album)

Suspiria is the kind of movie you should go into knowing can only see for the first time once and that you should TREASURE THAT. This movie is a demented fairy tale disguised as an Italian slasher film, and the soundtrack is still one of the loudest ever. Take Abel Ferrer's advice in the opening credits of Driller Killer, PLAY THIS SOUNDTRACK LOUD.

Aldo Piga - La Strage Dei Vampiri (Colonna Sonora Originale) (LP)

Sad to say, but we here at the 'Zoo have not experienced this film yet, but we are on a bughunt to do so. Review pending, but for those who love and seek out soundtrack vinyl from this era of Italian cinema, here's another notch in your belt.

Claudio Simonetti - Demons - Original Soundtrack (LP, Album, Ltd,)

What can you say about Demons that hasn't already been shouted from the rooftops? This is a gooey, splatty, over-the-top slice of Italian 80s horror that goes more than all the way in terms of the grotty chunky scenes, over-the-top dialogue and wonderfully contrived set pieces you'll have to see to believe.

Ennio Morricone - Spasmo (The X-Ray Version) (LP, Album, Ltd, RE)

This is one of Morricone's best of the genre. Spasmo is a doomy ride full of twists and turns. Is it all clues and no solutions? Not THIS TIME, but you won't guess the ending without having spent more than your fair share of time in the Italian horror saddle.

Ok, maybe you COULD guess the ending without all that but no good film or vinyl record is completely hyperbole-free, so...you know. Seriously speaking, Spasmo is HIGHLY recommended, on the screen and on your record player.
